About Barricade Clash

Barricade Clash is the definitive modern online adaptation of the world-renowned tactical board game Barricade (originally invented by Werner Schöppner in 1959 under the name Malefiz). Designed for players worldwide, Barricade Clash brings high-stakes competitive strategy, ELO ranking systems, global leaderboards, AI computer practice, and real-time multiplayer crossplay to your web browser and mobile devices.

"A game of pure strategy, fierce blockades, unpredictable dice rolls, and dramatic turnarounds."

The Origin & Legacy of Barricade (Malefiz)

First published in Germany in 1959, Malefiz derives its name from the Latin word for mischief or malicious intent. Unlike traditional racing games such as Ludo or Parcheesi where players simply race around a track, Barricade introduced a revolutionary game mechanic: white barricade obstacles that physically block paths across the board.

When a player lands on a white barricade, they take control of that barricade and can place it anywhere on the board (except the starting row) to block their opponents' progress or shield their own pawns. This created an entirely new dimension of aggressive tactical play and defensive bottlenecking.
